Established in 2010, Manuary™ raises funds to support research and improve clinical care for patients suffering from head and neck cancer. Men are four times more likely to acquire this type of cancer. In support of Manuary, men allow their beards to grow by not shaving for 31 days!
The ultimate goal of Manuary is to improve cure rates and quality of life for patients suffering from this disease.
Head and neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide. Historically linked to tobacco and alcohol use, new associations link it to the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is on the rise.
Head and neck cancers and their treatment can profoundly impact patient quality of life, as facial appearance, voice, breathing, and swallowing can all be compromised.
Survival with contemporary treatment consisting of radiation, surgery, and chemotherapy can be successful; however, up to 50% of patients with advanced cancers die from the disease.
